Friendly City Books is seeking a part-time bookseller for the holiday season to work up to 12 hours per week during store hours (Monday through Friday from 12 pm to 6 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm).
The holiday bookseller will play an important role in maintaining the brand, service, and atmosphere of Friendly City Books. Duties include greeting and assisting customers in a friendly and helpful way, opening and closing the store, shelving inventory, cleaning, and contributing to promotional materials and displays. Booksellers need to feel comfortable going with the flow and taking on any task.
This position will start during the month of November and tentatively conclude on Christmas Eve. After Christmas, the business will re-evaluate staffing needs. Holiday booksellers will have first consideration. The bookstore is closed on Thanksgiving Day and from Christmas Day to New Year’s Day.
Requirements
Has excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
Follows established procedures accurately and pays attention to detail
Takes initiative to start and complete tasks without prompting
Can adapt and problem-solve creatively
Is proficient with computers
Enjoys reading and recognizes popular books and authors
Has a flexible schedule with availability on weekends
Is able to lift boxes up to approximately 40 pounds
Duties
Open/close store safely and securely, following outlined procedures
Greet and assist customers in a friendly and helpful way
Perform point of sale transactions accurately and expediently
Search for customer requests in our inventory and vendor warehouses, place special orders, and contact customers for order pickup
Shelve newly received books and merchandise according to store guidelines, assist in creating displays, and restock and rearrange as needed
Clean and tidy the store during shift (including restocking books, merchandise, and supplies) and at open/close (including vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, breaking down boxes, and disposing trash)
Assist with inventory management, including data entry, filing, and organizing
Stay informed of sales, promotions, discounts, etc. and communicate such information accurately to customers
Write marketing material such as short book reviews, which may be displayed publicly in store and online
Work on special projects or tasks as requested by management
Compensation
$12 per hour
Eligible for the employee discount on books and merchandise during the employment period
